Did we suffer much?

We lost many loved ones in other battles, but in this certain battle, we lost a total of 13,000 soldiers. There were 10,602 Canadian casualties and there were 3,598 deaths in this battle. That may be a high number, but just imagine the 200,000 dead Canadians, British, French, and German soldiers who are buried under the ridge from unsuccessful attacks. We lost 24,000 Canadian soldiers who were either killed or wounded in the previous battle of the Somme. Before the Canadians won the Battle of Vimy Ridge, there were 150,000 British and French casualties between 1914 and 1916 with no success.
