Full Biography

Teti's wife was Queen Iput the first. She might have been the daughter of King Uncas, the pharoah that Teti succeeded.

In the year 2323 B.C. Pharaoh Unas is murdered thus leaving Teti as the next pharoah of Egypt. Teti becomes the first leader of the 6th dynasty which lasted from 2323 B.C. - 2134 B.C.

In 2289 B.C. Pharaoh Teti dies. His succeeder is his son, Pepi I who ends up reigning Egypt for 34 years.

Interesting Facts

Egyptologists found a statue of Teti which was made out of black and pink granite. The statue can be found in the Egyptian Museum.

The name of the pyramid in which Teti is buried in is called Saqqara.

Teti is buried in Saqqara North, and his son Pepi I is buried in Saqqara South.

Claim To the Throne

Teti was the successor for King Uncas, who was the last ruler of the 5th Dynasty. Unas did not leave an heir to his throne before he was murdered, so we don't know if Teti inherited the throne, or if he assumed the throne and the position of the Pharaoh of Egypt.

The pharoah Teti is perhaps best known for starting the 6th. dynasty after the death of Unas. He was the son-in-law of the murdered pharoah and married Unas' daughter Iput. This was in important move since royalty was considered to be a female trait and all pharoahs had to marry a royal woman to be considered a legal ruler. His rule is highlighted by the fact that he kept many of the officials and administrators that worked for his predecessor. He is also the first pharoah known to have links to the cult of the goddess Hathor from the city of Dendara. His rule brought an end to instability and was also the start of the Memphis based dynasty.

The Old Kingdom Period spanned from 2686 - 2181 B.C. and it was in this time period that Teti was pharaoh. He reigned from 2323 - 2291 B.C. which was 32 years. Teti was the first ruler of the 6th Dynasty.
